June 21, 2008: International Richard Wright Centennial Conference, Paris

21 June 2008

The American University of Paris
31, Avenue Bosquet
75007 Paris

The Conference will represent broad international and interdisciplinary explorations of Wright’s life and writing, with a special emphasis on the Paris he inhabited (1947-1960), both what it was and what it is today as a result of the marks he left behind, and on his experiences in Africa.

On June 21 at 1 p.m., I will chair the panel Modern Urban Anxieties in the World of Richard Wright and present a talk entitled “Men Out of Place: Richard Wright and the Fearful Fifties.”

Joining me on the panel are:
Richard A. Courage. Westchester Community College; James S. King. Salisbury University, Salisbury MD; and Roland E. Bush. California State University.

Visit the AUP web site for more information about the conference.
