David Downing, a fighter for the cause of academic labor and the editor of Works and Days invited me to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where in the course of giving a lecture (“The Graduate School Mess and How We Can Get Out of It”), I learned a lot about how a public graduate school can brand itself as teaching-intensive and chart a path toward survival.
